This piece was inspired by actress, Halle Berry.  Our paths crossed a while back at a fundraiser, and I had the privilege to witness a beautiful woman who exudes calm inner strength as well as graciousness under pressure.

I sometimes find myself in situations that require a bit of fearlessness that sometimes can be difficult for me, especially speaking up and challenging authority and the status quo.

I recently was referred to a new medical doctor.  On my first appointment, I began asking some questions and found myself at odds with an attending nurse, whose attitude and actions focused on rules, regulations and protecting the doctor – including complaining to me about the length of my questions.

Inwardly I experienced great anxiety, including shortness of breath and a racing heart.  Taking a deep breath, I repeated my questions to the attending nurse adding one important fact – that I was meeting with the new doctor to see if we were a good fit, so I could decide whether to “hire her” as my new physician.

I imagine going forward this opportunity will present itself again.  The more I accept that my health is my responsibility, the easier it will be for me to insist on receiving answers to questions that are important to me.

When I look at this painting, I’m drawn to the soft curves next to the sharp edges because they remind me that I can be respectful and fearless at the same time.

As you take time to view this piece and absorb the colors, shapes, and movement, what are your initial experiences?

And where do you want to spend more time – drinking in the buttery bright greens and deep rich blues, absorbing the soft sensual lines, or perhaps feel the energy and quiet strength in the figure?

I hope you enjoy this piece and visit often – and may you find courage and calm in challenging situations where you need to be heard.
